"Zendati", "sciamiti" a "rotis" o a "rotellas", ovvero
orientale; "diapri", lampassi broccati, velluti operati, "panni aurei"
con disegni a "uccelli e cani d'oro", "alberi e uccelli verdi", "falconi
e foglie d'oro", "pagoni e phenici", "orsi lavorati a oro in campo sanguigno",
"erba chiamata trifoglio, verde in campo rosso", "hoche e a fogliame
d'oro", ricordati negli inventari medioevali, ideati come veri slanci
appartenenze sociali.
Nelle opere tridimensionali Molinari tende a far rivivere quell'aspetto
e vivificati grazie all'uso di trasparenti cromie acquerellate, quasi
architetto, designer.

Sendals, samites in "rotis" or
"rotellas", even circles with heraldic animals full of symbolic valence
of oriental inspiration; "diapri", brocaded lampas, velvet works, golden
cloth with bird and golden dog designs, "pagoni and phenici", bears
made from gold in a bloody field, grass which is called clover, green
in a red field, "hoche" and with golden foliage, remembered in the medi-evil
inventories, conceived as a true burst of fantasy by the designers,
then realised as a work of art by the silk weavers from Lucca; brocatels,
chiselled velvet with trunk and tied leaf designs of noble crowns; brocaded
lampas, brocaded, baroque and rococo "taffetas" with floral design,
interpreted in an always more naturalistic way, with exoticism, Chinese
influences and sinuousity; Norman and sixteenth century embroidery and
are the textile works of art which inspire Mauro Molinari to express
his singular artistic research which is certainly full of almost mysterious
fascination or just as reserved to those experts of gold-silk cloth
history that have always interpreted and made visible certain roles
and social relationships. With three-dimensional works of art, Molinari
tends to revive that lived aspect of antique materials ( and here it
is valid to remember Mariano Fortuny, the last man ofthe Renaissance
who had great success, at the beginning of the 1900's, thanks to his
luxuriant printed velvet with themes dealing with findings and Renaissance
painting) full of history and hidden symbols which are today forgotten.
Sacred and royal cloth re-emerge from the past through the brush and
enlivened thanks to the use of transparent water colour colourations,
almost diaphanous, with uncertain outlines and shadings to bring on
dreams, here expressed through the "trompe-l'oeil" and sculpture which
opens up in desired lacunae, interpretations of lacerations caused by
usage and lack of care, but also highlighted embroidery to underline
the structural parts of the planet.
Warps and polychrome silk themes, of gold and silver, not glittering
any more so as to give that desired dusty effect, bring to mind solemn
splendour even if the glittering threads remain the as the colour and
decorative outlines.
The clothes which are royal, princely, or for the occasion, that were
possibly donated to the church, liturgical hangings, the rare fragment
guardian of relics or preserved in public or private collections, are
the findings full of history and cultural messages that have always
made known diverse figurative language, and which today resurface even
thanks to a contemporary artist, sensitive and attracted to the fascination
of sumptuous silk cloths that challenge the centuries, continue to play
a role of cultural divulgation, but above all they give depth to a figurative
knowledge that is always the basis of any artist: painter, sculptor
, architect, designer.
