L'artificio naturale

The alarm-clock. the traffic
of the morning. a cappuccino. the train. the factory. the office and
a quick meal in anger.
A break at last. more than a hundred images and colours evenlope my
memories.
The green of meadows. the red of fruits. the yellow of lemons. clear.
bright colours. well defined contours outline the shapes we already
know: pumpkin. eggplants. beans. I should never have thought that with
its worried look. it is asking me: "who am I?". And now. I am not so
sure I know.
Some minutes ago I would have sworn it was a cabbage. a savoy cabbage.
but what about now?
I have asked myself till I feel sick: "is what I see only what I know?"
I observe. I search and I find myself among the pores of its leaves.
following its veins. vanishing in its own colours. leading nowhere.
As a paradox: everyday I discover that nature has become more unnatural
than its image.
The artifice of nature is now natural artifice of things. the image
of reality is stronger than reality itself.
As a small man I look at nature from the bottom to the top: and the
fruits turns into monument. the wicker basket into a skyscraper. the
meadows into a forest.
I am lost and I cannot get back.
I discover things I have never notice before and the daily obviousness
become wonder: Alice's mirror becomes transparent and reveals its World
of Wonder.
The descriptive precision of these paintings is extraordinary: its the
imperfection itself to make them unbelievably real.
The caterpillar, the hole and the bruise on the fruit make these still
life credible to man's eye.
Silence and wonder turn these works into a window, open onto an enchanted
world, I wouldn't be surprised to meet a gnome among those green meadows
and threadlike leaves.
If the northern painting has made us realise, also through Caravaggio's
work the capabilities of oil painting techniques in expressing the truth,
today composition is rediscovered: precise, coherent, more than symmetrical,
harmonious.
The challenge between man and machine is compulsory in a era where virtual
is taking the place of reality and artificial intelligence accompanies
human logic.
With his works Piergiuseppe Occleppo has synthesised a part of nature
far us; we cannot deny that, from now on. the lawn behind our house
has got a new semantic value.
It is like awaiking from the nightmare of the absurd and realising that
everything has got an order: the lavish tables and the fruits in the
basket; realizing in a minute that our human dimension persists.
I think I could not add anything to these paintings. which actually
tell their own story.
The painting technique is so keen that it is almost imperceptible,.
these paintings are here simply to be admired.
